About the Area
Meadow is located at a half way point between the historic Columbia River and Mt. Adams in the Trout Lake Valley of Washington. Located an hour and fifteen minutes from Portland, it's an enjoyable drive through the Columbia River Gorge. The area is home to families of homesteaders, farmers, and various city folk living out their misguided agrarian dreams. It's an area that features World Class wind sports, rafting, kayaking, and all the hiking and biking you care to do.
In the Spring, the mountains will be covered in snow (check your hikes before leaving), the rivers will be full and the Sun will be shining!
About the Property
Annie and Dale, neighbors of Nu Habitat family Chris and Adria Sparhawk, are generously letting us use their land for this event. Annie's family grew up on the homestead, this is their home, so we'll want to leave it as we found it or better...
Gate Hours
Meadow will have limited gate/greeter hours to insure that we can greet and get folks settled in a welcoming, orderly fashion. If you have to arrive outside of these hours, please park across the road from the gate and use the gate walkie-talkie to reach the site coordinator who will help you get settled!
Thursday & Friday : 12 noon - 11pm
Saturday : 11am-4pm
BYO Chairs & Shade
While the stages will have some shade coverage and there are nice shady areas, please bring any additional or specific shade you'd need for your personal setup and hanging by the music.
Camping
Meadow is an outdoor camping event. We will have designated areas for for tent camping as well as parking areas for those who will be staying in RV / Campers.
Parking / RV-Car Camping
Parking for tent campers will be just inside the gate and the greeters will help you get familiar with the space! We'll also have some carts and small shuttle to help carry your belongings to the tent camping area.
RV-Camper and car camping areas will be designated. We'll have to pack things in pretty snuggly to make room for everyone close to the action, so be conscientious as you park!
Facilities
Meadow will have the facilities you've become accustomed at festivals as well as some more specific to a smaller gathering such as Meadow:
Ample Porta-Potties and Handwashings Stations.
Common Area for Food Prep - This will be a shaded area with tables and some basic supplies including water and first aid. There will be some large camp stoves and tables in this area, and it is the safest and best location to use your personal camp stove. BYO food and utensils. We'll all be responsible for keeping up this shared space.
Garbage - We'll have a trailer to haul bagged trash to the dump. You can deposit your bags anytime during the event or on your way out! (Nice)
Ice - Ice will not be sold directly at the event. However, we will coordinate a daily ice run for those in need before noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please bring cash (1's) and fill out an ice request envelope in the kitchen area before 9am on the day you'll want ice!
Wildlife
This valley is home to a wide variety of wildlife: herds of elk, packs of coyote, flocks of turkey, bear, cougar, lynx/bobcat, and your usual suspects of deer, squirrels, field mice, gophers, etc. This brings in raptors of all kinds: owl, hawk, kestrels, and an occasional eagle (although they are usually in the Mouth of the river). None of these should bother us, except:
Mice
Secure your food stuffs, otherwise, the mice will take advantage. A sealed cooler does the trick; a vehicle may or may not do the trick (there are a lot of ways in). Don't leave food in your tent!
No Pets
Due to the wild nature of this environment and the safety of your furry friends we are asking guests to please leave them home for this gathering.
Fire / Danger
The Fire Marshal restricts outdoor fires between June 17-October 1.
We do have a fair amount of wind gusts come up the valley, so it's important that only certain types flame are used and that usual fire danger protocols are followed:
No open flames, wood burning, charcoal BBQ's, candles, etc.
Smoking/Cigarettes - All smoking in designated smoking areas only. Discard cigarettes in the provided receptacle and NEVER in the grass!
Propane / Gas camp stoves only used in designated kitchen area. If they aren't in an RV or camper, elevate stoves 36" off the ground on a stable surface.
Weather
The time surrounding the Summer Equinox is the some of the best climate time of year! Temperatures can range from the 40's at night up to 80's during the day, however more temperate conditions are likely. As always in the PNW there will be some chance of precipitation so come prepared. But rest assured, Nu Habitat chose this time of year to host this event hoping that it will be quite pleasant and most certainly beautiful.
White Salmon River - Beautiful & Dangerous
We will be adjacent to the White Salmon River, home to World Class kayaking and rafting as well as a scenic river. You should enjoy the beauty of this river from above and a far!
DO NOT GO INTO THE RIVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
This is a very dangerous river; the temperature will invoke hypothermia quickly and for several miles downstream it is cliff-bank and there is no place to climb out of the river. If you go in, you will most likely be seriously injured or die.
WiFi / Cell
Plan on having little or no cell service on the Meadow property. Load your maps before you leave the I-84. Communication via WiFi can be accessed in the event of an emergency.
